Rehabilitation, at his recent petition containing that on the voidance, by the death of Robert de Lany, of the provostship of the chapel royal of St. Mary at St. Andrews, a principal dignity with cure, and, by the resignation to bishop Henry of William de Foresta, of the canonry and prebend of Turray in Aberdeen, the late James, king of Scots (to the king of Scots for the time being belonging by special papal privilege the collation and provision of the said provostship and the presentation to the said canonry and prebend) made collation and provision to him of the said provostship and presented him for the said canonry and prebend to the said bishop, who instituted him, and that, without having obtained any canonical dispensation, he still detains possession. Mandate, recapitulating the preceding, to collate and assign to the above Hugh (who is related to the above late king [James] in the fourth degree of kindred, (fn. 13) and has rendered great services to Charles, king of the French, and out of regard for the said kings, who petition the pope on Hugh's behalf (fn. 14) ), if found fit, and after he has duly resigned them, the said provostship and canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 60l. and 50l. sterling respectively. Hugh, who asserts that the habit of the above monastery is reputed almost secular, is hereby dispensed to hold the said two benefices, notwithstanding that he has expressly professed the said order, etc. Dignum arbitramur.
