Dispensation to him, who is a master of the chancery of king Henry, and holds besides the said church, value not exceeding 50 marks, the free chapels of Hastyng and Mote in the dioceses of Exeter and Chichester, value not exceeding 10 and 15 marks respectively, to hold for life with the said church any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.Vite etc.
1429. 2 Non. Sept. Ferentino. (f. 6.)	To John Preen, perpetual vicar of Termonseghyn (the better form Termonfeghyn also occurs) in the diocese of Armagh, I.U.B. Prolongation as below. The pope lately dispensed him to hold for two years with the said vicarage any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and afterwards made provision to him of the perpetual vicarage of Dreged’ in the same diocese, value not exceeding 15 marks, that of Termontfeghyn (sic) not exceeding 24, as to which vicarage of Dreged’ he, who has for some time followed the Roman court and is at present dwelling therein, has not yet been informed whether he has got possession. 2 Id. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 14d.)	To Nicholas Bildeston, archdeacon of Winchester, D.C.L. Dispensation to him (whom the pope lately [Cal. Lett. VII, p. 246] dispensed to hold for seven years with his parish church of St. Felicitas [i.e. Phillack] in Cornwall any other benefice with cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, after which he resigned the said church and obtained that of Bisshopton in the diocese of Salisbury and the above archdeaconry, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40l. and 50l. respectively, besides which he holds the canonry and prebend of Bedwynd in Salisbury and Snedyng in London, value not exceeding 50l. and 10l. respectively) to continue to hold together, after the lapse of the said seven years, the said archdeaconry and church, and to do so for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange. 1428. 2 Id. Dec. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 19d.)	To Nicholas Haket, dean of Ossory. Prolongation as below. The pope lately made provision to him of the said deanery, a major elective dignity with cure, previously reserved, and required him, as soon as he obtained possession of it, to resign the treasurership of Cashel, a non-major dignity; and subsequently the pope dispensed him to retain for seven years with the deanery or with any other benefice having cure or otherwise incompatible the said treasurership, which has cure and is not elective. The pope hereby grants to him—who is of noble race, has studied canon and civil law for some years, holds the said deanery, having obtained it in virtue of the said first letters, value not exceeding 40 marks, that of his canonry and prebend of Kyltagan and Donnachmor in Lismore and of his said treasurership (of which latter he has been recently despoiled) not exceeding 12 marks, to whom the pope lately made provision of the canonry and prebend of Glynmethan in Dublin, value not exceeding 60 marks—a prolongation of the said seven years, which are not yet expired, by ten more, during which he may resign deanery and treasurership, simply or for exchange, and hold instead two incompatible benefices. 1429. 4 Id. Oct. Prope SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 23d.)	To the dean of Clogher. Mandate to cause Matthew Macathassaydh alias Okinatha, priest, of the diocese of Clogher (who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure; who is litigating in the papal palace about the perpetual vicarage of Langfort Megmachuna otherwise commonly called Lochtan, and to whom the pope has made provision of the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of St. Comgallus de Gaubalyuin alias of the plebs Dartragii, both in the said diocese, value respectively not exceeding 6 and 14 marks, at the same time dispensing him to hold both for life) to be received as a canon of the Augustinian monastery of SS. Peter and Paul the Apostles, Cluaineoys, in the same diocese, which is at present without an abbot, and to receive his profession. 3 Kal. Nov. Prope SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 24d.)	To John Morton, rector of Maiden Newton in the diocese of Salisbury, licentiate of civil law. Dispensation to him, who holds besides Maiden Newton the free chapel of Witherreston in the same diocese, value not exceeding 70 and 20 marks respectively, and who became a licentiate of civil law by examination, to hold for life with the said church any other benefice etc. as above, f. 5d. 1429. 6 Kal. May. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 28d.)	To Andrew Obudy, rector of Theachboethin in the diocese of Raphoe. Grant as below. The pope lately ordered the bishop of Lucera and two others [not here named] to collate and assign to Andrew, having a papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted etc. as above, f. 23d, the rectory of Trachbaethin (sic) in the diocese of Raphoe, as being void because Donald Micgillabridi held it for more than a year without being ordained priest, the mandate stating that the value did not exceed 10 marks. At his recent petition, containing that Nicholas Antonius, [then] bishop of Lucera, duly made collation and provision to him of the said rectory, and that he has obtained possession, and adding that some assert that the value is more than 10 but not more than 16 marks, and that he therefore fears molestation, the pope hereby grants that the said collation and provision and their consequences shall hold good from the present date, as if the value had been rightly expressed. 2 Non. June. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 35.)	To Alexander Sparwe alias Herbard, archdeacon of Salisbury, I.U.D. Dispensation as below. He lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman (i) to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice with or without cure, (ii) having been so promoted and having obtained the parish church of Bukenhull in the diocese of Lincoln, to hold one other benefice without cure [Cal. Lett. VII, p. 56]. Subsequently (having resigned the said church and obtained that of Brynkeworth in the diocese of Salisbury, and having been dispensed by Henry, cardinal priest of St. Eusebius's, then bishop of Winchester. who had special faculty from the pope, to hold one or two mutually compatible benefices with or without cure, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, and hold instead four compatible benefices) the pope dispensed him [ibid., p. 176] to hold any mutually compatible benefices of any number and kind, with or without cure, and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. Afterwards [ibid., pp. 260, 261] the pope dispensed him, who was holding the parish church of Maydyn Newton in the said diocese and a canonry of St. Davids and cursal prebend therein, to hold for three years with Maydyn Newton any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a dignity, but not major nor principal, etc., which period of three years (he having obtained and held with Maydyn Newton, in virtue of the said last dispensation, the treasurership of London, a non-major dignity) the pope prolonged by five, during which he might resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, subsequently granting to him [ibid., p. 390] that the said prolongation and dispensation should hold good even if the said incompatible benefice were a dignity, major or principal, etc. At his recent petition, containing that, resigning Maydyn Newton, he obtained the archdeaconry of Salisbury, which is also a non-major dignity, and is holding it together with the said treasurership, value not exceeding 120 and 40 marks respectively, and that the end of the said five years is at hand, the pope hereby dispenses him (who holds also a canonry of Salisbury with the prebend of Wryghtlyngton and Fordyngton therein, and the prebend, wont to be assigned to secular clerks, of Fountemell in the church of the Benedictine nuns’ monastery of Shaftesbury in the said diocese, value not exceeding 80 and 40 marks respectively) after the lapse of the said five years to continue to hold the said treasurership and archdeaconry and to do so for life, resigning them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and holding instead two other incompatible benefices, even if two dignities, major or principal, etc.Litterarum etc.

To all etc. Relaxation, during ten years, of two years and two quarantines of enjoined penance to penitents who on the principal feasts of the year and that of the dedication, the usual octaves and days, and of a hundred days to those who during the said octaves and days visit and give alms for the conservation and repair of the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, Ouchtirhous, in the diocese of Dunkeld, to which Patrick de Ogilby, knight and sheriff of Angus, and the rest of the parishioners cherish singular devotion. Faculty for him, to whom the pope has recently [above, p. 109] made provision of the said united churches, to be consecrated by any catholic bishop assisted by two or three others. The consecrator is to send Jordan's oath of fealty to the pope as usual; without prejudice to the archbishop of Cashel. Cum nos pridem.

2 Id. Aug. Ferentino. (f. 110d.)	To the prior of Durbach in the diocese of Meath. Mandate to cause Donatus Macreafay, rector of Newtown (Noverville) de Feartulach in the said diocese, to be received as a monk of the Cistercian monastery de Benedictione Dei in the same diocese, and to receive his profession. 4 Kal. Feb. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 117.)	To William de Spalding, rector of Cullass’ in the diocese of St. Andrews, licentiate in theology. Dispensation as below. He formerly received papal dispensation, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman (i) to be promoted etc. as above, f. 23d, (ii) to hold one other benefice, after which he obtained the above church, value not exceeding 20l. sterling; and the pope made provision to him of a canonry of Dunkeld, with reservation of a prebend therein and of a benefice with or without cure in the common or several gift of the Benedictine abbot and convent of Lindores (de Londoris) in the same diocese, with the condition that as soon as he obtained a canonry and prebend of Dunkeld or such benefice the said provision should be null as far as regarded the other benefice. The pope now dispenses him, who is also M.A., to hold four other benefices with or without cure, compatible with one another and with the aforesaid, and to resign them, as well as the said parish church, canonry and prebend of Dunkeld or reserved or other benefice, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead six compatible benefices. Indult to wear the mitre, ring and other pontifical insignia, and in the monastery, the priories subject to it, and in the parish and other churches belonging to it, to give solemn benediction after mass, vespers and matins, provided that no bishop or papal legate be present. 3 Kal. Aug. Ferentino. (f. 138.)	To John, abbot of Monasterevin (de Rosa valle) in the diocese of Kildare, dwelling in the Roman court. Mandate to grant to John Harold, a Friar Minor professed of the house of Drogheda (Pontana) in the diocese of Armagh, who is at present in the said court, licence to transfer himself within a year from the present date to another house of his order. 8 Id. April. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 144.)	To the abbot of Ballintober (de Fonte Sancti Patricii) in the diocese of Tuam, and William de Burgo and Oddo Oceandubain, canon[s] of Tuam. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Oddo Ohuigind, Augustinian canon of Cluaneis in the diocese of Clogher, to whom he recently ordered provision to be made of the Augustinian monastery of St. Michael, Mayo, in the diocese of Tuam, that formerly archbishop John warned, under pain of excommunication etc., Malachy Ocearnaid, rector of Magfindealba in the diocese of Tuam, to pay his visitation procurations; that Malachy persisted in his neglect to pay, and conspired with others against the said archbishop's honour, wherefore the archbishop publicly excommunicated him, in spite of which Malachy has continued to celebrate mass, has dilapidated the goods of the rectory, has been guilty of perjury, and is unfit to govern the rectory, which has cure—if the said Oddo—who lately received papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, related in the second and third and the third and fourth degrees of kindred, (i) to be promoted etc. as above, f. 23d, (ii) to be appointed to and to rule the said monastery of St. Michael; and who could not, together with the convent, be decently maintained from the fruits etc. thereof, value not exceeding 12 marks, and keep up hospitality etc.—will accuse the said Malachy before them, to summon Malachy and others concerned, and if they find the above, or enough thereof, to be true, to deprive Malachy, and in that event to grant to Oddo, to be held by him in commendam for life with the said monastery, the said rectory, of the patronage of laymen, value not exceeding 7 marks. Mandate, at the recent petition of Patrick de Cadros, canon of the Augustinian priory of Inchmahome (Sancti Colmoci de Insula) [in the diocese of] Dunblane (containing that formerly, on the voidance of the said priory, which is conventual, by the death within the first five years after the pope's accession of Patrick de Port the convent, to whom when there are no general papal reservations of such priories the election anciently belongs, elected the above Patrick de Cadros, who consented to the election, had it confirmed by John de Dalrimpil, priest, instituted by the chapter of Dunblane, the see being void, as their vicar-general in spirituals, and, in virtue of the said election and confirmation, obtained and still holds peaceable possession; and adding that he doubts whether the said election and confirmation hold good), to collate and assign to him the said priory, which depends on no monastery or regular place, value not exceeding 50l. sterling, in whatsoever way it became void. Indult for the abbot and his successors and the convent to let or grant to farm or yearly pension to any persons, clerks or laymen, anysover fruits, rents etc. of the monastery and its churches, for such time as they shall think good, provided that such leases or grants do not extend to fee or alienation, and with the saving clause that the abbot and convent and their successors shall not be bound to abide by such leases and grants for more than nine years, except in so far as it shall seem expedient for the utility of the monastery.Sacre religionis.
16 Kal. July. SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 181d.)	To the abbot of Dunfer [m] lyn in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate, at the recent petition of king James and of abbot James and the convent of the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary and St. Andrew the Apostle, Lindores (de Lundoris), in the said diocese—containing that the late Benedict XIII appropriated to the said monastery the parish church of Crech in the same diocese, which was in the common presentation of the abbot and convent; and that, inasmuch as the said appropriation did not take effect during the obedience of those parts to the said Benedict, Henry bishop of St. Andrews, at the instance of the said king, with counsel and assent of the chapter of St. Andrews, made the appropriation by his ordinary authority—if he find the facts to be as stated, to appropriate by papal authority the said church to the said monastery, value not exceeding 18l. and 300l. sterling respectively, a perpetual vicar's portion being reserved. 7 Kal. Sept. Ferentino. (f. 200d.)	To William, abbot of the Cistercian monastery of Cupar in the diocese of St. Andrews. Decree that the provision which the pope has this day made to him of the said abbey, as being void by the resignation of Thomas de Furd, monk, then abbot thereof, made at the apostolic see to Lewis, cardinal priest of St. Cecilia's by his proctor James Skirmegeour, dean of Aberdeen, D.C.L., and admitted by the pope, shall hold good even if, as his petition contained, the monastery became void, according to some, by the death of William Ledhous. Ibid. (f. 201.)	To the bishops of St. Andrews and Aberdeen. Mandate to receive from the above William to whom, sometime Cistercian abbot of Kynlos in the diocese of Moray, the pope has this day made the above provision, in order to save him the labour and expense of coming to the Roman court, his oath of fealty, and to send it to the pope, as usual. Mandate to absolve Joan Milis, Benedictine nun of St. Melorus's, Ambresburi, in the diocese of Salisbury, from the incest of which she has become guilty by often committing fornication with a certain person, by whom she has had offspring, and from the sentences of excommunication etc. which she has incurred, enjoining a salutary penance, to dispense her to be elected etc. to anysoever dignities, below that of abbess, and offices of her said monastery and order, and to rehabilitate her. 5 Id. Oct. Prope SS. Apostoli, Rome. (f. 241.)	To the prior of Heyee in the diocese of Norwich. Mandate as below. The pope lately granted to the convent of the Cluniac priory of Thetford in the said diocese that on account of the distance of the abbey of Cluny they might, during the wars between England and France, elect their prior, who should seek confirmation from the apostolic see, and who might thereafter receive professions [Cal. Lett. VII, pp. 530, 531]. Subsequently, as was contained in the recent petition of Nicholas Fewldon, monk of the said priory, upon the resignation, made in presence of the convent, of John Ixworth, [now] monk, then prior, but not duly admitted by any authority, the convent elected as prior the said Nicholas, a professed monk in priest's orders, who consented thereto. Seeing that the said election does not hold good, the pope orders the above prior to admit the said resignation, and to collate and assign to Nicholas the priory, with cure, value not exceeding 20 marks, howsoever void. 3 Id. July. Ferentino. (f. 252d.)	To the abbot de Benedictione Dei, and the priors of St. Mary's alias the House of God, Moleannkearr, and St. Mary's, Durbach, in the diocese of Meath. Mandate to grant in commendam during the pleasure of the apostolic see to William Okathassaydh, brother of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, who says that he is the son of a priest professed of the said Hospital and an unmarried woman, and that the fruits etc. of the Hospitallers’ house of St. John Baptist, Kylkaenny, in the diocese of Meath, wherein he was received as a brother of the said Hospital and made his profession, are so slender that his portion is not enough for his maintenance, the perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 12 marks, of the church of St. Euanus, Druymraine alias Druymrathne, in the said diocese, of the patronage of laymen and wont to be governed by secular clerks, so long void, because Simon Okathassaydh held it for more than a year without being ordained priest, that its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, although Rory Magruarit, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has held it for more than five years, having obtained it by collation made to him by authority of the ordinary after the said lapse; whether it became void in the way stated, or by the death or resignation of Thomas Nornayg (or Noruayg), or in any other way.
