(f. 170.)
To the abbot of Navan (Novania) and the priors of Cluantuasgert and Eachraim Omany, in the diocese of Clonfert. Mandate, at the recent petition of Malachy Ymadeyn (also written Omadeyn), canon of Clonfert, who is by both parents of a race of princes—containing that formerly, after having succeeded by the death of his father to certain lands and possessions, he and Maurus Omadeyn, chief of his sept (cum…. sue nacionis capitanco), to whom he owed obedience on account of the said lands etc., engaged in a conflict for the defence thereof, in which one or two laymen were killed, of whose death Malachy was innocent—to dispense Malachy, whom the pope hereby rehabilitates, on account of any irregularity contracted by the above, and to dispense him to be promoted to all, even holy orders and minister therein, provided that no scandal be caused in those parts, and in that event to collate and assign to him the archdeaconry of Clonfert, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 15 marks sterling, which, as the pope has learned, has been so long void by the death of Malachy Okeallay (also spelt Ykeallay) that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, removing James Ohurayn, clerk, of the diocese of Clonfert, who has unduly detained possession for more than ten years; notwithstanding that Malachy holds a canonry of Clonfert and a prebend without cure (simplici prebenda) therein, value not exceeding 2 marks.
