De Regularibus

1424.
Non. Oct.
S. Maria Maggiore, Rome.
(f. 103.)
To Nicholas, abbot of St. Mary's, Glastonbury, in the diocese of Wells. Faculty to dispense forty monks of his monastery, who have attained their twenty-second year, to be promoted to all holy, even priest's orders. Sincere deuocionis.
1424.
4 Kal. June.
SS. Apostoli, Rome.
(f. 143.)
To the bishop of Salisbury. Mandate, at the recent petition of Cecily Marmyll', nun of Ambresburi, immediately subject, of the order of Fontevrault, in his diocese—containing that formerly, after having lived laudably for some time in the said monastery, she allowed herself to be carnally known by two secular priests and had offspring by each of them, on account of which she lost her stall in choir and her place and voice in chapter, and became disabled from holding abbatial and other dignities etc.; and adding that for six years since the aforesaid she has lived laudably in the said monastery—if he find the facts to be as stated, to absolve Cecily, if she ask, enjoining a salutary penance etc.; and moreover to rehabilitate her, restore her to her said stall etc. of the said and any other monastery of the said order to which she may be transferred, and, provided that no scandal be caused thereby, to dispense her to be elected to any dignities, abbatial or other, etc. wont to be governed by nuns of the said order, and to receive and hold the same. Sedes apostolica, pia mater.
4 Kal. May.
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 151d.)
To the dean of Bayeux. Mandate by these presents (which the pope wills to have force as if they had been granted under date 4 Kal. Feb. anno 1, cf. pp. 370n., 371n.) to reserve to William de la Faloyse, Benedictine monk of Longues (de Longis) in the diocese of Bayeux, priest, a benefice with or without cure (value stated) wont to be governed by monks of the Cluniac monasteries of Troarn or Thetford in the dioceses of Bayeux and Norwich, in the common or several gift of the abbot and prior respectively and convents of Troarn and Thetford. Dignum etc. (Ja. xxii. Decimoscptimo Kal. Januarii Anno Octauo. de Cerretanis.)
16 Kal. Dec.
S. Maria Maggiore, Rome.
(f. 158.)
To Adam de Olton, preceptor of the Augustinian house of St. Anthony, London. Indult at his recent petition (containing that for many years, on account of the wars between England and France and the Schism, few or no canons have come to England from the monastery of Saint-Antoine in the diocese of Vienne, on which St. Anthony's immediately depends, wherefore in St. Anthony's the custom and use of the said monastery and order have not and cannot easily be observed) that as long as the said wars last, he and his successors may perform divine service according to the custom and use of the church of London, and not be bound to observe any other. They are not, however, to omit the special commemoration of St. Anthony according to the custom and use of the said monastery. Exigentibus tue deuocionis.
3 Id. Feb.
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 163.)
To Oliver de Brolio, monk of the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Sulpice in the diocese of Rennes. Rehabilitation, at his recent petition containing that after the pope's late general reservation of all conventual priories, the Benedictine conventual priory of Locmaria (de Locomarie) near Quimper (Corisopitum) became void by the death of Alan de Peulu, and that Guillemeta, abbess of Saint-Sulpice, in whose gift the said priory ordinarily is, made collation and provision of it to him, under pretext of which he obtained possession, and still detains it; that meanwhile a cause arose between him and Griffin, bishop of Ross, and Amice Troussier, nun of St. George's near Rennes, of the above order, about the said priory, the said bishop and nun opposing Oliver's provision and possession, claiming that the priory belonged to them; and that the pope has, at Amice's instance, committed the said cause to Master John de Palena, papal chaplain and auditor, who has taken some proceedings. Oliver is to resign the priory. Sedes apostolica, pia mater.
7 Id. Feb.
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f 163)
To Master John de Palena, papal chaplain and auditor. Mandate, recapitulating the preceding, if he find that, as is asserted by some, neither the above bishop nor Amice has any right in or to the said priory, to collate and assign it (value stated) to the above Oliver. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (Pe. xxvi. Id. Januarii Anno Octauo. de Casatiis.)
4 Non. Nov.

(f. 191.)
To Peter, bishop of Alet, residing in the Roman court. (fn. 2) Mandate, at the recent petition of the Benedictine abbot and convent of St. Mary's without the walls of York, to confirm to them the appropriation alleged to have been made to them, with consent of the late Henry, king of England, and of the chapter of York, by the late Henry, archbishop of York, of the parish church, which is of their patronage, of Hornsee, a portion being reserved for a perpetual vicar to be presented by them to the ordinary, by virtue of which appropriation they took possession of the said church (which was likewise appropriated to them by papal authority) on its voidance by the resignation of Anthony de Sancto Quintino. Apostolice seruitutis officium. [See Cal. Lett. VI, p. 192.]
10 Kal. Nov.
S. Maria Maggiore, Rome.

16 Kal. Dec.
S. Maria Maggiore, Rome.
(f. 208d.)
To the bishop of Winchester. Mandate, at the complaint of Adam de Olton, preceptor of the Augustinian house of St. Anthony, London (setting forth that formerly the late John Macclesfeld, a secular clerk, during his administration alienated much of the property of the said house, granted yearly pensions thereupon to his children and to divers other persons, and burdened the house with debt etc.), to summon the persons concerned and to annul all such alienations, grants, pensions etc. prejudicial to the said house and preceptor and to the monastery of Saint-Antoine in the diocese of Vienne, as shall be found unlawful. Cum sit nobis.

Religionis etc. [See also above, pp. 33, 34.]
Concurrent mandate to the abbot of Saint-Oyand de Joux (Sancii Eugendi Juren.) in the diocese of Lyons, and the officials of Auxerre and Nevers (Nirernen.). Religionis etc. (Ja. xiiii. xvi. Quarto Kal. Maii Anno Octauo. de Cerretanis.)

To the bishop of Kildare. Mandate, if he find that the spot which Maurice Ocolgan, canon of the Augustinian conventual priory of St. Mary, Killeche, in his diocese, has in his eye does not cause great deformity, to dispense him to be promoted to all holy orders and minister therein; and in the event of his so dispensing him, and if after examination he find him fit, to collate and assign to him, who has studied canon and civil law for many years, and by the power and help of his parents is able to be of no little help to the priory, the said priory, with cure and elective, value not exceeding 10 marks, void and reserved, under the pope's late general reservation of conventual priories, by the death of Charles Yduyd.
