To the bishop of Limerick, the abbot of St. Mary's, Monasteranenagh (de Magio), in the diocese of Limerick, and Edmund Fitz Adam, canon of Limerick. Mandate—the pope having learned that the office of minister of the Trinitarian house of St. James, Athdara, in the diocese of Limerick, is void by the death of Walter Northyn; although John Flemyng, friar of the said house, unlawfully detains it, and has inhibited, under pain of excommunication and otherwise, Thomas Bottiller, priest, as a friar of the same house, from repairing to the apostolic see for the purpose of obtaining the said office—to summon John and others concerned, and if they find that the said inhibition proceeded from the said reason, to declare it null, and to collate and to assign to Thomas the said office, a conventual dignity, with cure and elective, value for the minister's use and mensa not exceeding 6 marks. The like in Derry to him, who has studied canon and civil law for about three years in places of those parts which are not universities (in particularibus locis), and who has lately had papal dispensation, as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders, and hold a benefice even with cure; notwithstanding that a pope has lately ordered provision to be made to him of the perpetual vicarage of Achadufaid and of the rectory of Airegal in the diocese of Derry, value not exceeding 9 marks, and has dispensed him to hold both together for life; notwithstanding also that he (whose father, afterwards ordained priest, holds a canonry in the said church of Derry) is illegitimate as above, on account of which, and of his father holding a canonry of Derry, he is hereby dispensed to hold such canonry and prebend.
