De Prebendis Et Dignitatibus Vacaturis.



15 Kal. Sept. St Peter's, Rome. (f. 73.)	To Richard Hals, B.C.L. Provision motu proprio to him, a priest, of a canonry of Exeter and another of Wells, with reservation of prebends, and of a dignity, even an elective major dignity with cure, personatus or office in one of the said churches, and of a benefice with or without cure, value not exceeding 80 marks if with cure, in the common or several gift of the bishops of Exeter and Wells; notwithstanding that he holds the church of Worbilton alias Warpulton in the diocese of Chichester. He has hereby dispensation, also motu proprio, to hold for seven years such dignity, personatus or office and such benefice with cure—upon obtaining which he is to resign his said church— and to exchange them meanwhile for two similar or dissimilar incompatible benefices. Provision motu proprio to him, a priest, of a canonry of Salisbury and another of Wells, with reservation of prebends, and of a dignity, even an elective major dignity with cure, personatus or office in one of the said churches, and of a benefice value not exceeding 100 marks, wont to be assigned to secular clerks, in the common or several gift of the bishop and the prior and chapter of Winchester; with dispensation, also motu proprio, to him who holds the church of Droknesford in the diocese of Winchester, to hold for life one other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible therewith, even if a perpetual vicarage, parish church or dignity, &c., and to exchange both as often as he pleases for two similar or dissimilar incompatible benefices. Provision of a canonry of Awkeland and another of Derlyngton, with reservation of prebends, and of a dignity, even an elective dignity, principal and united, personatus or office, with or without cure, in one of the said churches and (seu) a benefice with cure and value not exceeding 150 marks in the common or several gift of the bishop and the prior and chapter of Durham; notwithstanding that he holds a canonry and prebend of Chester [-le-Street]. Vite ac morum.
	Concurrent mandate to the bishop of Monopoli, the abbot of Blanchland (Albalanda) and the dean of Langchester. Vite etc. (De mandato.)

Mandate to make provision to Richard Pykryng, clerk, of the said diocese, if found fit after examination, of a canonry of Chester [-le-Street] and another of Norton, both in the diocese of Durham; with reservation, if found fit after the usual examination in Latin, of prebends, and of a dignity, etc., as in the preceding, in one of the said churches, and (seu) a benefice with cure and value not exceeding 150 marks, wont to be assigned to secular clerks, in the common or several gift of the abbot and convent of St. Mary's York and the prior and chapter of Carlisle. Provision motu proprio of a canonry of Lincoln, of Salisbury, of London and of Wells, with reservation of prebends, and of a dignity, even a major elective dignity with cure, personatus or office, with or without cure, in one of the said churches, and of a benefice, with or without cure, value not exceeding 150 marks, in the common or several gift of the bishop and the prior and chapter of Durham, provided that it be not a cathedral canonry and prebend; with the necessary dispensation. Provision motu proprio to him—who has lately had dispensation from the pope to hold for life two benefices with cure, even if elective dignities, major and with cure or principal respectively, personatus or offices with cure in metropolitan, cathedral or collegiate churches, and to exchange them for two similar or dissimilar incompatible benefices— of a canonry of Lincoln, of London and of Wells, with reservation of prebends, and of a dignity, even a major elective dignity with cure, personatus or office, with or without cure, in one of the said churches, and of a benefice with or without cure, value not exceeding 100 marks if with cure, in the gift of the bishop of Winchester, provided that it be not a cathedral canonry and prebend. Upon obtaining such dignity, personatus or office and benefice with cure, he is to resign his church of Newechurche in the diocese of Winchester. Vite ac morum.

Mandate motu proprio to make provision to John Ware, rector of Elyndon in the diocese of Salisbury, bachelor of canon law, if found fit after examination, of a canonry of Salisbury, of Chichester and of London, with reservation, if found fit after the usual examination in Latin, of prebends, and of a dignity, even a major elective dignity, personatus or office, with or without cure, in one of the said churches. If not found able to sing Latin well, he is to have reservation of the prebends and of an office without cure only. He has hereby the necessary dispensation, valid for ten years. Dignum arbitramur. Mandate motu proprio to make provision to John Repynton, clerk, of the diocese of Lichfield, if found fit after examination, of a canonry of Lincoln, with reservation, if found fit in Latin, of a prebend and dignity, etc. If not found able to sing Latin well he is to have reservation of a prebend and of an office without cure only. Provision of a canonry of Killaloe, with reservation of a prebend; notwithstanding that the pope has recently made provision to him of the perpetual vicarage of Tuaymfynlacha, in the same diocese, value not exceeding 5 marks. Vite ac morum.
	Concurrent mandate to the abbot of the Scots monastery in Vienna, and the archdeacon and official of Killaloe. Vite etc. (Pro Deo.)

4 Kal. Aug. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 167.)	To the abbot of Rewley, and the priors of Stodley and Worcester. Mandate to collate and assign to Richard Godynton, Augustinian canon of St. Fredeswide's, Oxford, papal chaplain, the church of Weston-on-Avon, in the diocese of Worcester, value not exceeding 40 marks, wont to be served by secular clerks, which he obtained by collation and provision of Tideman, bishop of Worcester, on its voidance by the death of John, and now doubts whether the collation holds good. He has hereby dispensation to hold the church for life, and to exchange it as often as he pleases for a benefice with or without cure, even wont to be assigned to secular clerks, provided that it be not in a cathedral or collegiate church. 2 Kal. Nov. St. Peter's, Rome. (f 194.)	To William de Karlelle, of the Augustinian hospital of St. Mary the Virgin, Newcastle on Tyne. Reservation to him—who has had papal dispensation to hold and exchange a benefice with or without cure, even if wont to be served by secular clerks—of a benefice with or without cure, value not exceeding 100 marks, even if wont to be served by secular clerks, in the common or several gift of the bishops and the priors and chapters of Durham and Carlisle; with the usual anteferri clause as against all, except cardinals and members of the pope's household, expecting similar benefices. Grant to him—to whom the pope has lately ordered provision to be made, with the anteferri clause, as in the preceding—that no one, with the said exception, shall, under letters even containing the same clause, be preferred to him. Appropriation to the Augustinian prior and convent of Hautempris, of the church of Belton in the isle of Axholm, of their patronage, value not exceeding 90 (corrected in the margin de mandato from 60) marks, that of the monastery not exceeding 400. The church may be served by one of their canons or other, a secular priest, appointed and removed at their pleasure. Ad perp. rei mem. Sacre religionis. (De mandato.)
11 Kal. Nov. St. Peter's, Rome (f. 212.)	Appropriation to the abbatial mensa of Roger, Cistercian abbot of Pyppewell, so long as he remains abbot, of the church of Dunchurche in the diocese of Coventry and Lichfield, value not exceeding 30 marks, of the patronage of the monastery. The church may be served by a religious or secular priest appointed and removed at abbot Roger's pleasure. Ad fut. rei mem. Romani pontificis. (De mandato.)

7 Id. Feb. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 271.)	To the bishop of Tuy, and the priors of Bishop's Lynn (Lennieepiscopi) and Wymundham in the diocese of Norwich. Mandate to publish and cause to be observed the pope's renewal [below, Reg. LXVI, f. 143d] of the letters—Cum a nobis petitur, which are beginning to be consumed with age and of which exemplification is here given, of Alexander IV dated at the Lateran, 7 Kal. March, anno 2 [1256], confirming the letters patent whereby the bishops of Norwich and Walter their successor granted that the clerks of the prior and chapter, dwelling in their manors and churches, might decide ecclesiastical causes arising therein.
