The dean, in company with Peter Laurentii, came to England on behalf of Raymond, cardinal of St. Mary's in Cosmedin, to whom the pope has given the archdeaconry of Canterbury, void by the death of Simon de Convenis. The archbishop, however, gave it to his chancellor, John de Bretona, who procured the seizure of the said dean. The pope requires the king to liberate the dean, and to treat him and Peter, or any other proctors of the said cardinal, with favour, and to allow them to fulfil their mission. |
