To all Christ's faithful, etc. Relaxation in perpetuity of ten years and ten quarantines of enjoined penance to all who, being penitent and having confessed, visit on the feasts of the Assumption, the Nativity of St. John Baptist, and Corpus Christi, from the first to the second vespers, and give alms for the conservation and repair, etc., of the church of the priory of St. John without the walls of London, of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, thereof John Weston is the present prior. Appointing him (who has made his regular profession of the said hospital, and has for a long time striven in the service of the orthodox faith and the Christian religion against the Turks), motu proprio, a member of the pope's household, with the enjoyment of all privileges, etc. Religionis zelus, vite ac morum. Exemplification from the Register of Sixtus IV at the recent petition of George, bishop of Dunkeld, of the tenour of the said pope's letters, Sixtus, etc. Ad fut. rei mem. To all, etc. Requesting a safe-conduct for John Weston, prior of St. John's, London (as above), who is going to king Richard and the realm of England on business concerning his religion, and also to divers parts of the world, and for his retinue, etc., to the number of twenty-five persons; to hold good for two years only. Confirmation, at the petition of the dean and canons of the free chapel royal of the college called the college of St. George, but from of old founded [sc. the chapel] in honour of the glorious Virgin Mary and SS. George the Martyr and Edward the Confessor, immediately subject to the pope and the apostolic see, in the castle of Wyndesore, in the diocese of Salisbury, and at the petition also of king Richard, of all their possessions and rights and privileges, etc.; with grant, etc., anew thereof, pro pociori cautela, in so far as belongs to the said see. 1484/5. 3 Kal. Feb. (30 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 189r.)	To the dean of Segovia (Segobien). Mandate, as below. The recent petition of William Yberrynd, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin, contained that upon Eugene Oberrynd, archdeacon of Elphin, refusing to obey a certain sentence delivered against him by papal authority, and being arrested at the instance of the said William and a number of his kinsmen, the said William violently put iron handcuffs on him. (fn. 1) thereby incurring sentence of excommunication, etc. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above dean to absolve the said William therefrom, enjoining a salutary penance. To all, etc. Requesting, motu proprio, a safe-conduct for George, bishop of Dunkeld, a continual commensal of the pope, who often has to go to divers parts of the world on business of the pope and the apostlic see and of himself, and for his retinue, etc., to the number of six persons; with the enjoyment of all privileges of continual commensal prelates of the palace, even when he is absent from the Roman court; to hold good for two years only. Mandate to dispense John Yve, of the town (villa) of Derby, and Emmota, relict of Roger Lyversiche, of his diocese, to remain in the marriage which they formerly contracted per verba de presenti, and solemnized before the church, etc., in ignorance that the said Roger had been godfather to a child of the said John and the late Joan his wife, and that the said John had been godfather to a child of the said Roger and Emmota, then also his wife, and to decree legitimate the offspring to be born of the said marriage; notwithstanding the impediment of spiritual relationship arising from the foregoing. 1484. 3 Non. Dec. (3 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 321v.)	To the precentor, and John Doctor, canon, of London. (fn. 2) Mandate, at the recent petition of John Weston, prior of the priory of St. John without the walls of London, of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, called the prior of England, to confirm the settlement of divers disputes which has been made between him and John Boswel, (fn. 1) preceptor of the house of Templebruuer, (fn. 2) of the said hospital, in the diocese of Lincoln, as is more fully contained in a certain private writing, written by the hand of a certain third party, and subscribed by their hands; summoning the said John Gosswellem [sic] and others concerned, (fn. 3) and making due inquiry respecting the lawfulness of the said settlement. Prid. Kal. Jan. (31 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 327r.)	Statute, decree, and ordinance, at the recent petition of John Weston, prior of the priory of St. John without the walls of London, etc., as in the preceding (containing that the church of the said priory, especially its bell-tower, is in great need of repair), that the first year's fruits, etc., of all benefices in the gift, etc., of the said prior, which are void and shall become void, to the sum of 1000 ducats of gold of the Camera, pertain wholly to the said repair, and shall not be used for any other purpose. 1485. 11 Kal. May. (21 April.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 392r.)	To the abbot of Kelso (de Calco) and the provost of Corstorfen, in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of George Carmichell, treasurer of Glasgow, and Gilbert Kenedy of Kerkanychall (? recte Kerkmychall), layman, of the diocese of St. Andrews, contained that after the issue of the letters of Paul II, ‘Ad perp. rei mem. Cum in omnibus judiciis sit rectitudo justicie.’ etc., ut in Paulina continetur, (fn. 4) William, archbishop of St. Andrews, wishing to improve the condition of his church of St. Andrews, O.S.A., granted to the said George and Gilbert, with the consent of the chapter, a nineteen years’ lease, for the sum of 210 marks of the money current in Scotland, and a yearly payment of 22l. of the said money, of all the demesne lands of the church of St. Andrews, called [the lands] of Turingam (recte Tiningam), together with the lakes, coney-warrens and conies, and the fishery of the said lakes and of the river Tyne, lying within the sheriffdom of Edimburg in the constabulary of Adintone, and lawfully belonging to the said church, (fn. 5) as is said to be more fully contained in a certain public instrument. The said petition adding that the said grant is to the evident utility of the said church, the pope hereby orders the above abbot and provost to summon the said archbishop and chapter, and, if they find this to be the case, to confirm the said grant. 1484/5. 7 Kal. March. (23 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 397r.)	To Ralph Hethcote, rector called the master or warden of the chapel of Corpus Christi, London, bachelor in decrees. Indult to him, who is a chaplain of Thomas, bishop of Salisbury, recently sent as orator of Richard, king of England, to the pope, to receive for life the fruits, etc., of the said chapel and his other benefices, whilst studying letters at the university or residing in the said chapel or any one of his benefices, the daily distributions alone excepted, as if he were personally resident, and not to be bound to reside in them, and also to rent or to let to farm or yearly pension the said fruits, etc., to any persons, ecclesiastical or lay. To Thomas Bowdon, rector of the parish church of Kynkam in the diocese of Lincoln, M.A. Dispensation to him, who is a chaplain, etc., as above, f. 397r., to receive and retain for life with the said church any two benefices, or without it any three benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Ibid. (f. 401r.)	To Richard Bryndholme, rector of the parish church of Little Wylburgham in the diocese of Ely, bachelor in decrees. Dispensation, as below. Sixtus IV dispensed him to receive and retain for life with the parish church of Rosse in the diocese of York, which he was then holding, any other benefice, and if he resigned the said church any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, etc. The pope now dispenses him, who is a chaplain, etc., as above, f. 397r., and who lately, in virtue of the said dispensation, obtained by canonical collation the parish church of Little Wylburgham in the diocese of Ely, to receive and retain for life therewith, or, if he resign it, with any two other incompatible benefices for which he has been dispensed, as above, any third benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a parish church, etc., and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, provided that of such three incompatible benefices not more than two be parish churches or perpetual vicarages. Dispensation to him, who is the son of Blankrose, beloved of Richard, king of England, (fn. 1) to receive and retain for life with the said church one other benefice, and if he resign the said church any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Dispensation to him, who is below his sixteenth year, and is a nephew of Thomas, bishop of Salisbury … pope (as above, f. 397r.), to receive and retain, as soon as he reaches his said sixteenth year, any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a parish church or a perpetual vicarage, etc., or a dignity, etc., in a cathedral, even a metropolitan church or in a collegiate church, even if such dignity be major in a cathedral, etc., church or principal in a collegiate church, and such dignity, etc., be elective and have cure of souls, and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. 1484. Prid. Id. Sept. (12 Sept.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 424r.)	Validation as below, Upon its being set forth to Sixtus IV by Ralph Hethcote, rector, master or warden of the chapel or chantry of the college of Corpus Christi by (iuxta) the church of St. Laurence near (prope) Candelweke Strete, London, bachelor in decrees, that although Nicholas V had declared the said college (which in its foundation, ordination and statutes is in certain places called a chantry, in others a chapel and chantry under the name and title of a college, and in other places a college) to be a benefice compatible with any other benefice even with cure and otherwise incompatible, and although the said college was thenceforth held and reputed to be a compatible benefice, nevertheless, for the greater peace of mind of the said Ralph, and at his petition, Sixtus IV decreed, under date Id. Jan. anno 13 [1484], that the said benefice called a college was compatible with any benefices even with cure or otherwise incompatible, and could be retained with them without other dispensation. The said letters of pope Sixtus not having been drawn up, by reason of his death, the pope grants that these presents shall be sufficient proof thereof. Ad perp. rei mem. Racioni congruit. 1484/5. 16 Kal. April. (17 March.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 463r.)	To John Barri, canon of Cork, and Donatus Ohedrescoll’, canon of Ross. Mandate, at the petition of Donald Ohedrescoll’, clerk, of the diocese of Ross, to confirm the lease in perpetuity formerly made to him and his successors by the abbot and convent of Carrigillihy (de Fontevivo), O. Cist., in the said diocese, of a piece of land in the same diocese called Lyslenayn; provided that it be to the evident utility of the said monastery, and provided that the present abbot and convent consent.
