(f. 3r.)
To the prior of the monastery of St. Mary, Clontuasgerta Omane, in the diocese of Clonfert, wont to be governed by a prior. Mandate, as below. The pope lately learned that the late William Ygerubayn proposed to resign the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Fotanach in the said diocese of Clonfert. It was also set forth to him by Carbry Omullaid, clerk, of the said diocese, that a suit had arisen between Patrick Magradallaid, a canon of the monastery of St. Mary, Clontuasgerta Omane, O.S.A., in the said diocese, and Malachy Ocluayn, priest, before certain judges in those parts, about the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Kyllduayn in the said diocese, that a sentence was promulgated in favour of the said Malachy and against Patrick, who appealed to the apostolic see, and that it was alleged that neither of them had a right in or to the said vicarage. The pope therefore, ordered the above prior to admit the said resignation, and if by the event of the said suit he found that neither of the said Patrick and Malachy had any such right, to erect the said vicarage of Fotanach, with consent of the bishop and chapter, into a prebend of Clonfert, and to unite to it, thus erected, the said vicarage of Kyllduayn for the life only of the said Carbry, and moreover to collate and assign to him a canonry of Clonfert and such prebend and annex, yearly value altogether not exceeding 7 marks sterling. Seeing that, as the pope has learned, the said vicarage of Fotanach became and is void by the death of the said William extra R. c., before the pope's letters had been presented to the said prior; and the recent petition of the said Carbry containing that the said bishop and chapter are raising difficulties about the said erection, and that he has been put to no small expense in the expedition of the said letters, the pope hereby orders the above prior to decree that the said letters shall hold good from the date of these presents, even if the said vicarage of Fotanach became void by the death of the said William, or in whatsoever way it became void, etc., and to proceed to the execution thereof as regards the said erection and union, with consent of the said bishop and the greater and sounder part of the chapter, etc. Vite ac morum. (f. 36v.)
To Peter Omulmoy, dean of Armagh. Relaxation, etc., as below. The deanery of the church of Armagh, a major dignity, is void by the death of Thomas Makamuyl extra R.c., and reserved under the pope's late reservation of all major cathedral dignities. And the recent petition of the above Peter contained that on the voidance without the said court of the priorship of the Culdees (Caledeorum) in the said church, a non-major dignity called a conventual dignity, Octavian [now] archbishop of Armagh, appointed then administrator of the said church by the apostolic see, made, in virtue of a special faculty which he alleged that he had from the said see, collation and provision thereof by papal authority to the said Peter, who in virtue thereof obtained possession, and has held the said priorship for about eight years, taking the fruits. The said petition adding that it is alleged that at the time of the said collation and provision the said priorship had been so long void that its collation had lapsed to the said see, and that the said Octavian had therefore no power to collate it, wherefore and for other reasons the said Peter doubts whether the said collation and provision hold good, the pope, relaxing the oath which the said Peter took to the said archbishop not to impetrate the said priorship from the apostolic see by way of collation, provision, commenda, union or any other title, and rehabilitating him on account of the taking of the said fruits, and ex super habundanti cautela remitting them to him, hereby unites, at his said petition, the said priorship to the said deanery, yearly values not exceeding 6 and 60 marks sterling, respectively, for as long only as the said Peter shall hold the latter, and makes him collation and provision of the said deanery and united priorship, howsoever they be void; with mandate hereby to the bishop of Durham (?) (Dulmenen.); (fn. 2) the dean of Oviedo (Oveten.) and the archdeacon of Armagh, to induct him, etc. Vite etc. [5 pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Ap (rilis).’]

Confirmation, etc., as below. The recent petition of Richard Mayewe, president, and the scholars of the college of St. Mary Magdalen founded in the university of Oxford, contained that the late Lionel, bishop of Salisbury (considering that the fruits, etc., of the said college, in which are a president and eighty scholars studying in divers faculties, and especially in theology, besides sixteen boys called choristers and thirteen servants, were insufficient for their maintenance; and considering that in the college or chapel of St. Catherine, Wamburgh alias Wamberge in the diocese of Salisbury, in the presentation of [the late] William, bishop of Winchester, the due burdens were not being borne), ordered John, abbot of Hyde, O.S.B., in the diocese of Winchester, to unite and appropriate the said college or chapel to the said college of St. Mary Magdalen in perpetuity; and that the said abbot John, in virtue of a special faculty from the said bishop Lionel, united and appropriated in perpetuity by ordinary authority, with the consent of the dean and chapter of Salisbury and the archdeacon of North Wibshier [sic] in the church of Salisbury, and of the said bishop William, and others interested, the said college or chapel to the said college of St. Mary Magdalen, in virtue of which the said president and scholars got possession, as is said to be more fully contained in certain authentic letters or public instruments. The pope, therefore, at the said petition, hereby approves and confirms the said union and appropriation of the said college or chapel, yearly value not exceeding 90 gold florins of the Camera, and moreover, pro potiori premissorum cautela, himself unites and appropriates anew the said college or chapel so that the said president and scholars may take possession thereof anew, etc. Ad perp. rei mem. Ex iniuncto nobis. [62/3 pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Sep (tembris).’]

To Eugene Maconkagri and Donald Ofergayl and John Ofergail, canon of Ardagh (Ardakaden). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Donald Macschalayd, priest, of the diocese of Elphin, that on the voidance of the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Clouicorpe [sic] in the said diocese by the death of Lewis Meccoleg extra R.c., Fynnardus Macschalaid, priest, of the said diocese, agreed to pay to Cornelius, bishop of Elphin, a certain sum of money if he would make him collation and provision of the said vicarage, thereby contracting simony, and incurring the sentences of excommunication, etc., therefor, and that the said bishop, after receiving the said sum, made collation and provision by his ordinary authority to the said Fynnardus, who was bound by the said sentences, etc., and who under pretext of the said collation and provision took possession, and still detains it. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Donald will accuse the said Fynnardus before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to declare the said collation and provision and their consequences null and void, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, yearly value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, to the said Donald, whether void as above, or still void by the death of Gregory Macschalaid extra R.c., or void in any other way, inducting him, and removing the said Fynnardus and any other unlawful detainer. To the priors of the priories of Inchmacnerin (de Insula Machum [sic]) and Clontatirsai Nisna (fn. 3) [sic], in the diocese of Elphin, and Barbericus [recte Carbricus] Vrber [sic], a canon of Elphin. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Fergal Omokan, clerk, of the diocese of Achonry (Akaden.), that Thomolteus Ogara, priest, of the said diocese, bargained with the late Cornelius, bishop of Achonry, that if the said bishop would institute him in the perpetual benefice called the rectory of the rural lands of Culfind and Rana in the said diocese, of lay patronage, to which the patron had presented him, he would pay the said bishop a certain sum of money; that, after receiving the said sum, the said bishop instituted him by his ordinary authority; that under pretext of the said presentation and institution he got possession, and still detains it, thereby incurring simony and sentence of excommunication and other censures, etc., therefor; that he has also incurred the crime of perjury, has turned to evil purposes the fruits, etc., of the said benefice, and has not exercised its cure of souls. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Fergal who has no hope of obtaining justice in the city and diocese of Achonry, will accuse the said T[h]olmolteus before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing, or two of them sufficient for the purpose, to be true, to declare the said institution to have been and to be null and void, and deprive and remove the said Thomolteus, and in that event to collate and assign the said benefice, yearly value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to the said Fergal. To the prior of the monastery of St. Peter, Athluayn, in the diocese of Elphin, wont to be governed by a prior, and Cornelius Ocynayd and Eugene Ocuind, canons of Tuam and Clonfert. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Cormac Macochlayn, a canon of Clonmacnois (Cluanen.), that William Odubarlayd, prior of the monastery of St. Mary, Galynn, O.S.A., in the diocese of Clonmacnois, wont to be governed by a prior, and the canons of the same, live in private habitations and not conventually (fn. 5) in the said monastery, wherefore divine worship in the church thereof is not duly performed, but is almost extinct, its buildings falling to ruin, that he allows the canons to have their own private property, and has turned its goods to his own evil purposes, and is also defamed in those parts of the crime of adultery. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if the said Cormac (who has come in person to the apostolic see for the expedition of papal letters of provision and appointment to the church of Clonmacnois, (fn. 6) who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried persons of a great race of nobles, to be made a clerk and hold a benefice without cure, after which he had himself made a clerk, has been received by the chapter as a supernumerary canon of the said church, is in or about his twenty-fourth year, and hopes that if the said priory were granted to him in commendam he would compel the canons of the said monastery to reside conventually and live honestly therein, and serve the divine offices, (fn. 7) and hopes in other ways by the power of his friends, etc., to remedy the miserable state of the said monastery), if the said Cormac will accuse the said William before them, to summon the latter and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to grant the said monastery, yearly value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, to the said Cormac in commendam for life. The pope further specially dispenses him to receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. [4 pp. +. In the margin at the end: ‘Ap (r)i (lis).’]

To the dean and the chancellor of Killaloe (Laonien.), and William Odugyn, a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Malachy Odullany, priest, of the diocese of Ossory, contained that although he was presented within the lawful time by the lay patron to the rectory of the parish church of S. Mary, Rachdoni, in the said diocese, and instituted as rector by the authority of the ordinary, and in virtue thereof obtained possession of the said rectory, and held it for some time, William Magyllepadrig, clerk (alleging that the same vicarage [sic] (fn. 8) was then void, and had been so long void that by the Lateran statutes its collation had lapsed to the apostolic see, and that the said rectory had been in virtue of certain other letters of the present pope erected into a simple prebend (fn. 9) of Ossory, and that it, thus erected, ought to be collated and assigned to him), brought the said Malachy before William Obroth, prior of the monastery of Aghmacarth in the said diocese, wont to be governed by a prior, one of the judges appointed in the said letters, who, wrongfully proceeding, pronounced an unjust definitive sentence by which he erected the said rectory into a simple prebend (fn. 10) of Ossory and collated it to the said William Magyllepadrig, and imposed perpetual silence on the said Malachy, from which the latter has appealed to the apostolic see. Seeing that, as the said petition added, it is alleged that neither Malachy nor William has any right in or to the said rectory, the pope, at the said petition for the commission of the causes of the appeal, etc., and of the principal matter, to some upright men in those parts, hereby orders the above three to summon the said William Magyllepadrig and others concerned, and hear and decide the said causes, causing their decision to be observed by ecclesiastical censure, and moreover, if as a result of the suit they find that neither of the said Malachy and William has such right, to collate and assign the said rectory, yearly value not exceeding 30 marks sterling, to the said Malachy, inducting him, and removing any unlawful detainer, etc. Vite etc. [4¾ pp. In the margin at the end. ‘Mart (ii).’]

To Cornelius Odonalain, a canon of the monastery of St. Mary, Clontuasgertaomane, O.S.A., in the diocese of C[1]onfert. Grant, as below. His recent petition contained that he, who holds the chapel, collated to him by papal authority, of the parish church of Killorain in the diocese of C[l]onfert, belonging to the monastery of St. Mary, Clontuasgertaomane, O.S.A., in the said diocese, and wont to be governed by canons thereof, removable at the pleasure of the prior, the yearly value of which does not exceed 8 marks sterling, has greatly reparied the said chapel, and intends to repair it more every day, and to bulid there an honourable house for the dwelling of the resident canon. The pope, therefore, hereby grants to him that after he has more completely repaired the said chapel, and has built the said house, he cannot as long as he lives be removed from the said chapel against his will by the present prior or the prior for the time being, or by any other, and be called back to the cloister; with mandate executory hereby to the dean and the archdeacon of C[l]onfert, and Cornelius Okynny, a canon of the same. To the abbots of the monasteries of Kilbeggan (de Benedictione dei) et de Flumine dei, and the prior of the monastery of Dryssternac, wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Meath (Midien. [sic]). Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the rectories of the parish churches of the places of St. Patrick, Mydonrra (?) (fn. 11), and Baleomoryn, in the diocese of Meath (Midien.), are void extra R.c., and have been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Arthur Omilleclyn, clerk, of the said diocese, has detained possession of the said rectory of St. Patrick for between one and two years, without any title or right. And the recent petition of Rory Magruorec (?), a brother of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in the said diocese, contained that the brethren of the said Hospital dwelling in the house of St. John Baptist, Kilkykenne [sic], of the said Hospital and diocese, of whom the said Rory is one, cannot with its fruits, etc., keep hospitality and perform the other burdens incumbent on them by reason of the said house, and that it behoves them to seek help from secular churches, and that if the said rectory of the church of Baleomoryn, which is close to the said church of. St. Patrick, and has cure of souls, (fn. 12) habitual and not actual, were united to the rectory of St. Patrick for as long as he shall hold the latter, if collated to him in virtue of the presents, he could more opulently keep hospitality in the said house, and more easily perform his other burdens, repair the said churches, the walls and buildings of which greatly need it, and cause divine offices to be becomingly celebrated therein. At the said petition, therefore, of the said Rory, who alleges that the yearly values of the said churches of St. Patrick and Baleomoryn do not exceed 8 and 5 marks sterling, respectively, and that Gerald Dalton and Edmund Dalton and other laymen of the said diocese are holding possession and usurping the fruits, etc. of a certain land situate within the bounds of the parish of the said church of St. Patrick, in which [church] it is alleged that an image of the Holy Cross, which has been lying hidden for several years, has now miraculously appeared, (fn. 13) the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said Arthur and others interested, etc., and if they find the said rectories to be void in any way, to collate and assign the rectory of St. Patrick's to the said Rory, and to unite the rectory of Baleomoryn to that of St. Patrick, for as long as he shall hold the latter, inducting him into possession of the said rectories, and removing the said Arthur from that of St. Patrick's, and to remove from it and the said annex any other detainer. The pope further dispenses the said Rory to receive and retain for life the said rectory of St. Patrick's, and with it any mutually compatible benefices of the said Hospital, with and without cure, even if priorships, etc., and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, and hold instead any similar or dissimilar compatible benefices, viz. one secular benefice and other benefices of the said Hospital. To the prior of the monastery of Lorrha (Fontis vivi de Lochra), wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), the dean of Killaloe, and William Odwygyn, a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The priorship of the monastery, wont to be governed by a prior, of St. Mary, Monaincha (de Insula viventium), O.S.A., in the diocese of Killaloe, which is conventual, is void and ipso facto reserved to the pope, in virtue of his late reservation of all conventual priories, by the death of Patrick Obrioy [sic] extra R.c. And the pope has learned that the rectory of Roscre and the perpetual vicarage of Kynete, in the said diocese (which latter was erected into a sacerdotal prebend of Killaloe for as long only as Malachy Olannagan, priest, should hold it), are void, and have been void so long that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see. The pope, therefore, at the recent petition of Donald Ymeachayr, clerk, of the said diocese (who alleges that he has been dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of Dermit, also Omeachayr, priest [and] canon, who behaves as prior of the said monastery and has made his profession of the said order, and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to minor orders, and who is in or about his twenty-second year, and that for some time, without any title or right, his said father Dermit and the said Malachy have detained the said vicarage, and that the prior and convent of the monastery of St. John Baptist by le Naenach, of the said order and diocese, wont to be governed by a prior, have detained the said rectory, and that the yearly values of the said priory, rectory, and vicarage do not exceed 60, 24, and 15 marks sterling, respectively), hereby orders the above three to receive the said Donald as a canon of the said monastery of St. Mary, give him the regular habit, and receive his profession, and if, after summoning the said prior Dermit and the convent of St. John's, and Malachy, they find that the said priory is void as above, or by the resignation of the said Patrick or of Donald Ymechay, sometime prior, or that it and the said rectory and vicarage are void in any ways, to unite and appropriate the said rectory and vicarage to the said priory for as long only as the said Donald shall hold the latter, if he obtain it in virtue of these presents, and to collate and assign to him the said priory, rectory, and vicarage, after he has taken the habit and made his profession, inducting him, and removing from the said priory the said Dermit, from the said rectory the said prior and convent of St. John's, and from the said vicarage the said Malachy. The pope further dispenses him to receive and retain the said priory, rectory, and vicarage, notwithstanding the said defects of birth and age, etc. Apostolice sedis gratiosa benignitas cupientibus vitam ducere regularem. Statute and ordinance, as below. The recent petition of Robert, bishop of Glasgow, who has been sent to the pope and the apostolic see as orator of James, king of Scots, contained that if he, and the bishop of Glasgow for the time being, were a canon of that church, and held the prebend called [the prebend] of Ballanrik, (fn. 15) lately founded out of certain lands in the barony of Glasgow, formerly belonging to the episcopal mensa, and were present as a canon at meetings and acts of the chapter; and if, in order that the number of canons should not thereby be diminished, there were erected a canonry, and also a prebend out of the [parish? ] church de Druniz[e]dele (?), (fn. 16) in the said diocese and belonging to the said mensa, yearly value not exceeding 16 marks sterling; and if provision of such canonry were made to the said bishop, and it were ordained that on the cession or death, etc., of the canon who at present holds the said prebend de Ballanrik, it should thenceforth be called in perpetuity the episcopal prebend, and should be considered to be collated to the bishop for the time being and tenable by him alone, and should be excluded from expectative graces and reservations, special and general, etc.; and if, when the said bishop obtained possession thereof, the said church of Dumzedelle (?) were considered to be erected into a prebend; and if provision of it and the canonry now held by the possessor of the said prebend de Ballantre (fn. 17) were made to a fit person, the canons would benefit by the presence of the bishop at capitular acts, etc., without any diminution of their number. At the said petition, praying the pope to erect a new canonry, (fn. 18) and to make statute and ordinance that in future for ever the said Robert and the bishop for the time being shall be a canon of the said church, and shall obtain and hold the said canonry, thus erected, and the said prebend of Ballanrik [sic], (fn. 19) when it shall become void, which prebend shall be called the episcopal prebend and be tenable by none but the bishop, and that the said church of Drimz[e]delle (?) shall be separated from the said mensa and erected into a prebend, the pope hereby erects a canonry in the said church of Glasgow and makes provision of it to the said bishop Robert, who alleges that its fruits, etc., are null, and makes statute and ordinance that in future the said Robert and the bishop for the time being shall be a canon of the said church, and as such shall be present at capitular acts, etc., and shall hold in future for ever with the said canonry the said prebend of Ballanrik, yearly value not exceeding 24l. sterling, as soon as it becomes void by the cession or death, etc., of its present holder, and that the canonry now erected and the said prebend of Balla[n]rik (fn. 20) shall be called the bishop's (episcopalis), and that provision shall be considered to be eo ipso made to bishop Robert and the bishop for the time being, even without the making of any other mention or collation thereof, and that the bishop for the time being may and shall lawfully hold them with the said church of Glasgow without any dispensation, and that they cannot be resigned by the said Robert and the bishop for the time being without resigning the rule and administration of the said church, nor can they resign such rule, etc., and retain the said bishop's canonry and prebend, nor can the said bishop's canonry and prebend be held by any one except the bishop, even in virtue of any papal letters, in which [letters] they cannot in any wise be comprised; and that when the said prebend of Ballanrik shall become void, and the then bishop shall have obtained peaceable possession of it, the said church of Drunz[e]delle (?) shall be eo ipso deemed to be separated from the said mensa and erected into a prebend, and that provision shall be made to a fit person of the then void canonry held by the present canon who holds the said prebend of Ballanrik, and of the prebend erected by the pope from the said church of Dru[n? ]z[e]delle (?), so that by the bishop's addition to the number of canons the said number shall not be diminished; with mandate hereby to the bishop of Aberdeen and Dunblane and the precentor of Segorbe (Segobricen.) to induct bishop Robert forthwith into possession of the canonry erected by the pope, and, when it becomes void, into possession of the said prebend of Ballanrik, causing forthwith the said Robert or his proctor, and similarly the bishop for the time being, to be received as a canon, etc., and the fruits, etc., of the said erected canonry and, when it becomes void, of the said prebend of Balla[n]rik, to be paid to them, etc. Ad perpetuam rei memoriam. Confirmation, as below. The recent petition of Richard Mayewe, president, and the scholars of the college of St. Mary Magdalen founded in the university of Oxford, contained that lately, in virtue of a special faculty from the late Thomas, cardinal priest of St. Ciriac's in Thermis, who held the church of Canterbury by grant and dispensation of the apostolic see, Humphrey Haywardyn, clerk, doctor of laws (considering that the fruits, etc., of the said college, in which there were a president and 80 scholars studying in divers faculties, especially in theology, besides sixteen boys called choristers and thirteen servants, were insufficient for their maintenance, and considering that in the hospital called the chantry of free chapel of SS. Stephen and Thomas the Martyr, Romenale sive Romeney, in the diocese of Canterbury, hospitality had not for a long time been observed, and was not being observed, and that its anciently incumbent burdens were not being borne), united and appropriated in perpetuity the said hospital, which, as the said Richard and scholars allege, belongs to the presentation of William, bishop of Winchester, to the said college, with consent of the said bishop William, the prior and chapter of Canterbury, and others interested, as is said to be more fully contained in certain authentic letters or public instruments, in virtue of which union, etc., the said Richard and scholars obtained possession of the said hospital and its possessions, etc., and are at present in possession. At the said petition of the said president and scholars, who allege that the fruits, etc., of the said hospital do not exceed in yearly value 22 gold florins of the Camera, the pope hereby approves and confirms the said union, etc., and, pro potiori cautela, himself unites and appropriates anew the said college, called a chantry of free chapel, to the said college of St. Mary Magdalen for ever, etc. Ad perp. rei mem. Apostolice nobis desuper iniunctum servitutis officium. [3½ pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Sept (embris).’]

(f. 276v.)
To the prior of the monastery of St. Mary, Monaincha (de Insula viventium), wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), Malachy Odullany, a canon of Kildare (Daren.), and the official of Killaloe. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the rectory of the parish church of Layna[l]lay, and the rectories, in lay patronage, of the parish churches of Magdref[f]ni[e] and Biria, in the dioceses of Killaloe and Meath, have been so long void that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although the prior and convent of the monastery of St. Mary, Connell (de Comaylis), O.S.A., in the diocese of Kildare, wont to be governed by a prior, have for several years detained possession of the said church of Layna[l]lay, under pretext of a certain union and appropriation made to the said priory for a false cause, viz. the non-expression of the true yearly value of the said priory; and although John Onearawayl (?), clerk, and Matthew Machass’ (?) alias Obcolaymn’, priest, have for several years detained possession of the said rectories of Magdreffnie and Biria, respectively, under pretext of collations and provisions made to them by authority of the ordinary after the said lapse. The pope, therefore, at the recent petition of Rory Ocearmayll, clerk, of the said diocese of Killaloe, who alleges that he is by both parents of noble birth, and that the yearly value of the said rectories of Biria and Laynallay together does not exceed 100 marks sterling, hereby orders the above three, if, after summoning the said prior and convent and the said John and Matthew, they find the said rectories to be void in any ways, to erect a canonry in the church of Killaloe, and to erect (with the consent of the patrons and of the chapter) the said rectory of Maydreffnie into a simple prebend of the same, and to collate and assign them, yearly value not exceeding 24 marks sterling, to the said Rory, and moreover if, after summoning those interested, they find the foregoing to be true, to unite and appropriate (with the consent of the patrons) the said rectories of Biria and Laynallay to such erected canonry and prebend, for as long as the said Rory shall hold the latter, inducting him into possession of the said erected canonry and prebend and annexes, and removing from the said rectories of Magdreffnie and Birria the said [John and] Matthew, and from that of Laynallay the said prior and convent, etc. Apostolice sedis providentia circumspecta. Ibid. To the prior of the monastery of St. Mary, Monaincha (de Insula viventium), wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Killaloe, Denis Ohogayn, (fn. 24) dean of Killaloe, and the chancellor of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Maurus Okennedyg [priest? ], (fn. 25) of the diocese of Killaloe, the rectory of the parish church of Baleaybun alias Dysertteny in the said diocese, of lay patronage, and yearly value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, so long void that by the Lateran statutes its collation lapsed to the apostolic see, although Philip Okenn[e]dyg, priest, of the said diocese, has detained possession for between two and three years, without any canonical title; summoning and removing [the said Philip and ] any other unlawful detainer. (fn. 26)Vite etc. (Gratis pro deo. Juravit.) [3 pp. In the margin at the end: ‘Ap (rilis).’]

(f. 299v.)
To the prior of the monastery of St. Mary, Clontu[a]sgertaomany, wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Clonfert. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that William Ogearauayn, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Fohanach in the diocese of Clonfert, proposes to resign the said vicarage. And the recent petition of Carbry Omullaalyd, (fn. 27) clerk, of the said diocese, contained that a suit arose between Patrick Magrallay, a canon of the monastery of St. Mary, Clontu[a]sgertaomane, O.S.A., in the said diocese, and Malachy Oclonan, (fn. 28) priest, about the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Ky[l]lduayn in the said diocese, before certain judges in those parts, and that a sentence was promulgated in favour of the said Malachy and against the said Patrick, from which the latter appealed to the apostolic see; and that it is alleged that neither of them has a right in or to the said vicarage. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above prior to receive and admit the resignation of the said William, and, if by the event of the said suit he find that neither of the said Patrick and Malachy has a right in or to the said vicarage of Kyllduban [sic], to erect, with the consent of the bishop and chapter of Clonfert [a canonry in the said church of Clonfert, and to erect] the said vicarage of Fohanach into a prebend of the said church, and to unite thereto, thus erected, the said vicarage of Kyllduayn, the yearly value of which (quorum, sc. [canonicatus et] prebende) and of the said annex does not exceed 7 marks sterling, and moreover to collate and assign to the said Carby [the said canonry and prebend thus erected and the said annex], inducting him into possession of the said canonry and prebend and annex, and causing him to be received as a canon of the said church, etc. (fn. 29)Vite etc. [3¾ pp.]
