To the abbot of Geduart in the diocese of Glasgow, and the deans of Glasgow and Siguenza (Seguntin.). Mandate to collate and assign to William Turnbull, clerk, of the diocese of Glasgow, who is of noble birth, the perpetual vicarage of Enerlethen in the said diocese, value 30l. sterling, void and reserved by Execrabilis, because James Lewyntoun obtained it by collation of the ordinary and held it for more than a month with the parish church of Fortevvot without dispensation. Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (In the margin: Oct.) [2½ pp.]

5 Sixtus IV.

1475.
14 Kal. Jan.
(19 Dec.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 215v.)
To the priors of St. Cross on the bridge of Limerick and St. Mary's, Ragelli, in the diocese of Limerick, and the official of Limerick. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Richard Purssell, clerk, of the diocese of Limerick, that John Maklanyge, prior called minister of the Trinitarian house of St. James, Ahdarryd, in the same diocese, has, when under sentence of excommunication and accused of perjury, (fn. 1) celebrated mass etc. in contempt of the Keys—if Richard, who is by both parents of noble birth, will accuse John, to summon John and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to grant the said priory, which is conventual and value 40 marks sterling, to Richard in commendam for life. Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (In the margin: Decembris.) [3½ pp.]
4 Kal. Dec.
(28 Nov.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 232v.)
To the bishop and dean of Killaloe (Laonien.), and Donatus Ogradi, a canon of the same. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Thomas, bishop of Limerick, that Eugenius Offelan, clerk, has dilapidated the fruits etc. of the priory of St. Cross by (juxta) the Bridge of Limerick, of the order of St. Mary of the Cruciferi, which he holds in commendam by papal grant and dispensation, and has taken part in mass etc. when under sentence of excommunication, in contempt of the Keys, etc., and has for several years held the rectory of the parish church of Sandrum in the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.) without being promoted to any holy orders and without dispensation—if the said bishop, who alleges that his church of Limerick has suffered many losses on account of wars and dissensions of princes, will accuse Eugenius … true (as in the preceding, mutatis mutandis), to deprive and remove him, and in that event to grant the said priory, which is conventual and elective and has cure, value 40 marks sterling, to the said bishop in commendam for life. Personam venerabilis fratris. (In the margin: De.) [4 pp.]
4 Kal. Dec.
(28 Nov.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 240r.)
To the bishop, the archdeacon and the precentor of Limerick. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Thomas Oronayn, priest, of the diocese of Limerick, contained that provision was made to him by the present pope of the deanery of Limerick, then void by the resignation of the late Thomas Isannachan to the pope, and that provision was made to him by authority of the ordinary of the rectory of the parish church of Ballyngadi in the said diocese, of lay patronage, then void by the resignation of the late Richard Fizharri to the late John, bishop of Limerick, made for purpose of exchange, that in virtue of the said provisions he obtained possession of the said deanery and rectory, and held them for several years by papal dispensation; that Dermit Macumahuna, priest, got a papal mandate of provision of the deanery, and that Richard Fisgybun, clerk, got a similar mandate of provision of the said rectory; that the said Dermit and Richard claimed execution from the executors of their respective mandates, viz. Gerald, abbot of St. Mary's, Monasteranenagh (de Magio), O. Cist., in the said diocese, and Gerald Macuoyd, canon of Cloyne (Clonen.); and that, wrongfully proceeding, the said abbot and canon respectively adjudged the deanery to the said Dermit and the rectory to Richard, from whose definitive sentences Thomas has appealed to the apostolic see. The said petition adding that it is alleged that none of the three has any right to the said benefices, the pope hereby orders the above three, if they find this to be so, to collate and assign the said deanery, a major dignity with cure, value 60 marks sterling, and the said rectory, with cure and value 24 marks sterling, to Thomas. Vite etc. (In the margin: De.) [4 pp.]
1475[–6].
Kal. Feb.
(1 Feb.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 318r.)
To Malachy Okonceanayn, priest, of the diocese of Tuam. Rehabilitation, etc., as below. His recent petition contained that when young and having the tonsure he was playing when he accidentally hit a woman in the eye with a piece of wood, whereby she completely lost the sight of that eye, without mention of which he held the perpetual vicarage of Killcruvayn for about two years, and, resigning it, the rectory of Killcoryn alias Corcom[o]ga, in the dioceses of Elphin and Tuam, in both cases in virtue of a provision by papal authority, and has held the said rectory for twelve years, and, likewise without the said mention, has had himself promoted to all, even holy orders and ministered therein, even in the ministry of the altar, but not in contempt of the Keys. The pope therefore rehabilitates and dispenses him, so that he may minister in his orders, even in the ministry of the altar, and hold any compatible benefices with or without cure, etc. Sedes apostolica. (In the margin: Fe.) [1½ pp.]
