To the treasurer, and Gerald Mahicsiain and William Offathi, canons of Limerick. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Eugenius Offaelan, clerk, of the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), bachelor in decrees, perpetual administrator or commendatory of the priory, house or hospital of SS. Mary and Edward the Martyr by the Bridge, Limerick, O.S.A., contained that although the poor are lodged and well cared for in the said hospital, nevertheless, if the parish church of Rathranan in the diocese of Limerick, which is of lay patronage and has been so long void by the death of William Makosdeallyv that by the Lateran Statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, were united for his lifetime only to the said priorship he could better maintain himself and the said poor, receive in the said hospital more poor and needy, and better repair its buildings, etc. At the petition, therefore, of the said Eugenius (who alleges that Gilibertus Macscamdyly, priest, of the said diocese, has unlawfully detained the said church for between one and two years without any title, and that the values of it and the said priory do not exceed 12 and 40 marks sterling respectively; and who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of an unmarried clerk and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and receive and retain for life any compatible benefices, with or without cure, and, besides them, two benefices only with cure or otherwise incompatible with one another, even if canonries and prebends, major or principal dignities etc., or two parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, and to resign all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased), the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said Gilibertus and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to appropriate and unite the said church, for the lifetime only of Eugenius, to the said priory, which is conventual, is elective and has cure. The pope's will is that the cure of souls shall not be neglected in the said church, and that on Eugenius's death or his resignation of the said priory and hospital, or the cessation of the said commenda, the said union and appropriation shall eo ipso cease and be dissolved. Iniunctum nobis. (Hug. and Ja.Prats. Hug. xxx. Prothonot. Bisuntin.) [3 pp. +.]
