Dispensation to him, who holds the said provostship, a principal elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, at his own petition and that of James king of Scots, to receive together with the said provostship any one other benefice, or without the said provostship any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or major or principal dignities, etc., and to retain them for seven years only, if parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or for life if not, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. To abbot William and the convent of the Cistercian monastery of St. Mary, Cristall, in the diocese of York, immediately subject to the apostolic see. Indult, at their recent petition (containing that for the defence of the rights of the said monastery they desire that one of its monks shall always be learned (litteratum), in order to defend its rights in law when needful), for the said abbot and his successors to send one of the monks to study in the faculty of laws in a university, (fn. 5) and to substitute another in his stead as often as opportune; with indult for such monk to study in the said faculty and receive the degrees of licentiate and doctor and exercise any scholastic acts. Dispensation to receive and retain for life any benefice with cure wont to be held by secular clerks, even if it be a parish church or its perpetual vicarage, or a hospital, wont to be assigned to secular clerks as a title of a secular benefice, and even if it be of lay patronage, and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Provision to him, who is a priest and of lawful age, of the said church, which became void at the apostolic see, and therefore ipso facto reserved to the pope by the resignation, made to and admitted by the pope at the said see, of Robert, sometime bishop of the said church. Faculty to him, to whom the pope has recently made provision of the above church, to be consecrated by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see, assisted by two or three like bishops, and for such bishop to consecrate him, after having received from him the usual oath of fealty according to the form appended.
