1461. 12 Kal. June. (21 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 113d.)	To the bishop of St. Andrews, the abbot of Dunfermlyn in the diocese of St. Andrews and the provost of St. Salvator's at St. Andrews. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Robert Cuby, a monk of the Benedictine monastery of Abrobrothot in the diocese of St. Andrews, that Alexander Mason, a monk of the same, has committed sacrilege, theft and fornications, revealed and published the secrets of the abbot and, without licence of the abbot, and rather against his inhibition, has celebrated masses and other divine offices, thereby rendering himself unworthy of the Benedictine priory of Fivy in the diocese of Aberdeen, which he is holding) if and after Robert accuses Alexander before the above three, to summon Alexander, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him from the said priory, and in that event to collate and assign it, not conventual nor a dignity nor a personatus, not elective and without cure of souls, dependent on the said monastery and wont to be governed by monks thereof, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, to Robert. 6 Kal. June. (27 May.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 165.)	To the bishops of Emly and Ross and the abbot of Fermoy alias de Castrodey in the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.). Mandate (the pope having learned that Jordan bishop of Cork and Cloyne is an octogenarian, and is so old and without bodily strength and sight that he cannot exercise the pastoral office in person, wherefore many excesses and crimes of his subjects remain unpunished, and many goods of the said churches and of their episcopal mense are in the hands of laymen, and the vassels thereof and the clergy of the city and diocese are burdened with exactions by the said laymen) to appoint, provided that the chapter of Cloyne or the greater part thereof consents, William Roche, archdeacon of Cloyne, of a race of earls, to be coadjutor to the said bishop, and moreover, as soon as the said churches are no longer ruled by the said bishop, and until provision is made of them, to commit to the said William the rule and administration of the said churches in spirituals and temporals, etc. He is to give an account of his administration, and before beginning to act as coadjutor and administrator is to take to the above three an oath not to alienate, etc. ‘Inter sollicitudines varias.
