1457[–8]. 5 Kal. March. (25 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 25d.)	To Richard Lake, perpetual vicar of Breerdyng in the Isle of Wight (in Insula Vecca, rectius Vecta), in the diocese of Winchester. Dispensation, at his recent petition (containing that the said church and isle are in the sea between France and England, and are very often afflicted by the hostile incursions of the French, that he has been thrice captured and carried away captive and imprisoned and been obliged to pay more than 1,000 florins of gold of the camera, that he dares not reside at the said church, and cannot satisfy the creditors whose debtor he is on account of the foregoing, keep wonted hospitality and bear his other burdens) that if any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a dignity etc. or a parish church or perpetual vicarage, even if such dignity be elective and have cure, but not major or principal, be collated to him, he may retain therewith the said vicarage for life, and may resign them, simply or for exchange, provided that he do not hold two major or principal dignities, etc. Vite etc. (P. and B. de Monte. \| P. xxxx. de Varris.)
