To the abbot of Holy Trinity, Tuam, and Thomas Obraeyn, a canon of Tuam. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Richard (Riscerdus) Ruffus de Burgo, a canon of St. John the Evangelist's, Tuam, O.S.A., that abbot Eugenius and Cornelius Offlachardaid, a canon, of St. Mary's de Portupatrum, of the same order, in the diocese of Annaghdown, have divided the convent and the fruits etc. of that monastery into two parts, incurring simony, caused the convent, thus divided, to obey them, behaved as abbots of the said monastery, and respectively usurped the said fruits etc., dilapidated and alienated etc. its possessions and, in order to be sustained by their canons, have allowed them to soil themselves without punishment in the divers crimes in which they are involved (fn. 2) ), if and after Richard, who is of noble race, has made his open profession of the said order, and is in his twenty-fourth year, etc., accuses Eugenius and Cornelius before the above abbot and canon, to summon them, and if they find the above or enough thereof to be true, to deprive Eugenius, and to remove him and Cornelius, and in that event to make provision to Richard, if found fit, of the said monastery, value not exceeding 30 marks sterling: whether it be void by such deprivation, or by the free resignation of either the said Eugenius or Cornelius or of Thady Odubayn, [now] a Premonstratensian canon, or be void in any other way. In the event of their so doing they are to grant Richard licence to be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall receive his oath of fealty and send it to the pope without delay by his letters patent sealed with his seal (fn. 3); without prejudice to the archbishop of Tuam, etc. Richard is hereby specially dispensed on account of the said defect of age, etc. Ex suscepte servitutis.
